May 2009

From our Director

We are a Community of Artists... As time goes by, I get to know more and more member artists at a deeper level. I always love to hear their story; where they are in their journey as an artist. We are an incredibly vibrant community of artists and we have much to be proud of.

  • We have over 100 pieces of art currently for sale throughout the community
  • Our art is visible in our local restaurants, our local theatre and businesses
  • We have paintings groups and sketch groups that meet weekly
  • We have workshops on a variety of artistic topics that are open to the public
  • We have logged over 500 volunteer hours already this year
  • We have artists on the streets during events

This is truly becoming a community were art and artists thrive and Kudzu Art Zone has made a significant, essential contribution toward that end.

I am both pleased and proud of the artists and their work.

I was at the Inman Park Arts Festival recently and saw a quote I love.

‘A community without artists in not a true community, only people living in the same vicinity.’ Byrne Piven

As a community of artists, Kudzu Art Zone is a place to learn, to contribute and to grow. The more I interact with our members, the more classes I take, the more presentations I attend, the more I volunteer with other artists, the better artist I become. I look forward to our continued positive impact on each other and on the communities we serve.

Yours truly, Elsie Porter, Director

Reminder: With Memorial Day falling on the fourth Monday, we will have no May Member Meeting.

Membership News

I want to request help in membership, especially during the Kudzu meetings. If I have one to two regulars, we can cover each other and help with guests, new members & sign-in at the table. I also try to get 2 people to bring snacks for the 6:30 time slot and clean up after the meeting which only takes 5-10 minutes. Please consider joining me.

Thanks, Jeannie Fortin, Membership Chair
