From our Director

It’s Getting Better All the Time

Great Beatles tune...or state of affairs at Kudzu Art Zone? Both! We had a wonderful April opening reception for Traveler’s Tales showcasing an exhibit with 57 pieces of work. So many artists came and brought friends, family, neighbors and more.
It was WONDERFUL!

And, I’m happy to report that we have sold paintings EVERY month this year so far for a total of SEVEN paintings sold.

I am also delighted that our membership is growing every month as well. Several new members won awards at our last show. It truly is getting better all the time.

A Little Help From My Friends

Yet another Beatles tune, but also the truth. With sales up, five exhibits, new members every month, Marketing and Public Relations to over 25 entities, we need all the help we can get. If everyone gave just a little bit, we’ll be able to continue along these lines and more. Please take a look at the list below and call me to discuss how you can help. We especially need help hanging the shows and staffing the gallery.

  • Gallery Volunteer – Man the gallery Friday or Saturday 11am-4pm. We REALLY need your help. If each member volunteered one or two days, we’d easily cover the gallery!
  • Exhibit Coordinator – coordinate the five teams that manage each exhibit
  • KAZ Gallery Committee – be one of the team who hangs the KAZ Gallery show
  • Dominick’s – be one of the team who hangs the
    Dominick’s show
  • Norcross Cultural Arts and Community Center Committee – be one of the team who hangs the NCACC show
  • Zapata’s Committee – be one of the team who hangs the Zapata show
  • Host KAZ opening reception – responsible for refreshments, opening and closing for each KAZ Gallery opening
  • Fundraising Party – October 23 is our first fundraiser and we need help performing the many details of a this great party
  • Event Coordinator – research, contact and book presenters for our member meetings and possible workshops. Calendar maintenance as well.
  • Communications Coordinator – oversee the PR team, newsletter and other marketing efforts

Thanks for everything you do to make KAZ a success. Feel free to call or write me to find our more or if you have any questions.

Yours truly, Elsie Porter, Director

Next Member Meeting

Damon Carter to present at our next meeting, June 22

Renowned plein air painter Damon Carter will present at our June Member Meeting. His body of work has been recognized both locally and nationally. Known for both his landscapes and his portraits Damon will present with slide show and lecture to help us better understand the elements of exceptional
artistic expression.

At the Gallery

The KAZ member gallery exhibit, TRAVELERS’ TALES, opened on Friday, May 8th with a reception, 7-9 pm. The guest judge, Marty Chambers, enlightened the crowd (and we did have a great crowd) with his discussion on why he chose the ribbon winners. The winning entries were: 1st, Sara Grossman, 2nd, Cyndi Marble, 3rd, Katrina Stone & Toddy Erickson and Honorable Mentions to, Amanda Bolton, Neva Spell, Sandra Tribukait and Lynn Weisbach. The general impression heard was that this is one of the BEST exhibits held at the gallery. Congratulations to all! The exhibit will continue until Saturday, June 20th when unsold work can be picked up.

Please take advantage of the creative E-postcard available to market the exhibit and KAZ, by sending the latest E-postcard designed by KAZ member Cynthia Corbin. The E-postcard can be found in full color on the KAZ website with easy directions on how to send. Use this original marketing tool to promote your work and the activities of KAZ.

The next KAZ gallery exhibit will be titled A BODY OF WORK-FIGURES, FACES, FORMS, the work can be submitted Friday, Saturday and Monday, June 19, 20 & 22. The opening reception will be Friday, July 10 at 7 pm and the exhibit will run through August 22, 2009.

DOMINICK’S RESTAURANT gallery work can be submitted during gallery hours June 19, 20 and on the meeting night June 22. The front room gallery space is limited to small – medium size works (approximately 12 works) and the backroom gallery space can handle medium – larger work (approximately 6 – 8 works). The entry fee is $5.

GALLERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, especially during the Saturday hours of 11-4. If you are not actively volunteering elsewhere in the KAZ organization, AND you have an entry in the latest KAZ gallery exhibit, we need your help! Please contact Katrina Stone to coordinate your time.

Thanks, Sandy Lacy, Gallery Chair

I want to request help in membership, especially during the Kudzu meetings. I need one to two regulars, so we can cover each other and help with guests, new members & sign-in at the table. I also need to get 2 people to bring snacks for the 6:30 time slot and clean up after the meeting which only takes 5-10 minutes. Please consider joining me.

Thanks, Jeannie Fortin, Membership Chair
