July 2009
From the President
Hello Members...
Before I tell you about an upcoming election at Kudzu, I would like to take a moment to express our appreciation for the hard work Elsie Porter contributed to Kudzu. Unfortunately, funding for the Director position could not be secured and she made the decision to step down as Director. I would like to personally thank Elsie at this time for all her efforts and wish her well in her future endeavors.
During the past several months, Kudzu’s Board of Trustees has been planning a transition from a Board-run organization to a member-run organization. We are forming a 10-member Management Council, consisting solely of Kudzu members, who will run virtually all aspects of Kudzu’s day to day business. While the Board of Trustees will be guardians of our non-profit status, the Management Council will make the decisions on the activities and events that Kudzu offers. In fact, the Council will be instrumental in determining how the Council will evolve and function in the future.
This Management Council will be nominated and elected by the Kudzu membership at an upcoming meeting, perhaps as early as July or August.
We would like you to consider being part of the council and encourage you to contact one of the Board members with your nominations, suggestions and questions. And feel free to nominate yourself! Be part of Kudzu’s future!
Sincerely, Vince Maiello
President - Board of Trustees
At the Gallery
The KAZ member gallery exhibit, A BODY OF WORK— Figure • Face • Form, opens on Friday, July 10th with a reception, 7-9 pm. The guest judge will be Damon Carter (the presenter at the last meeting) and at this time he is not sure he will be available to attend that evening as he has scheduled surgery the following week.
Please join the always lively group of guests for the award ceremony and the usual fun social gathering.
NEW CLOSING DATE FOR THIS EXHIBIT: This show will be extended an additional six weeks ending October 4th (Sunday). An opportunity has presented itself for the promotion of Norcross as the “place for art” and KAZ will be the venue for ATLANTA CELEBRATES PHOTOGRAPHY (ACP), an Atlanta city wide event. To accommodate this exhibit, October 9-25th, a decision was made to make it easier on the KAZ gallery volunteers who take down and hang exhibits and leave the current show hanging for this additional time.
Body of Work will hang through the Norcross Art Festival Weekend of October 3-4 and will be taken down on Monday, October 5th. Unsold work will be found in the storage room. Please contact me if you need to remove your work before this extended closing time.
Entries for the next KAZ show, FOOD FOR THOUGHT, will be October 23, 24 & 26. Paizano's venue entries will be submitted July 24, 25 & 27.
Thanks, Sandy Lacy
Gallery Chair
Membership News
Thank You Very Much! I want to thank Rae Prall, Phyllis Ingham, and Lea Marshall for joining the Membership Committee. I am so grateful for your support and interest in helping with Kudzu's Gallery Openings and monthly meetings.
I would also like to remind the weekend Gallery volunteers to get the Art Show signs out early. This is our primary method of advertising our location and it gets people interested in visiting us. Please remember to read over the instructions in the volunteer info book for all the details on staffing the gallery on Fridays and Saturdays.
Thanks, Jeannie Fortin
Membership Chair
