From the President

Hello Members...

Well, the summer is half over, the kids are getting ready to start back to school, and lots of things are going on at Kudzu. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate Kudzu's new ten-member Management Council. The new council will soon be taking steps to move Kudzu and its membership to even brighter future. Made up of Kudzu members, the council will have a keen sense for what Kudzu and its membership feel are important in both goals and quality of programs. I know you all will join with them to help in this new direction.

Kudzu Management Council - 2009 include:

  • Rigsby Barnes
  • Cynthia Corbin
  • Jeannie Fortin
  • John P. Hart
  • Greg Jackson
  • Kathy Kitz
  • Sandy Lacy
  • James Mengason
  • Susie Schklar
  • Christopher Sherry

Those of you who were at our last Gallery Opening shared in a most enjoyable and very well attended event. Over 70 people came (members and guests) and enjoyed the wonderful artwork, as well as great food and conversation. Let's make this a sign of our future gallery openings! A special E-Vite, created by Cynthia Corbin and Delicia Reynolds, was used to invite this large crowd to the opening. It seems to have been a very successful way to promote our event.

So, KAZ friends, that about wraps it up from me for this issue. Everyone continue to have a great summer and I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely, Vince Maiello

At the Gallery

The KAZ member gallery exhibit, A BODY OF WORK—Figure, Face, Form , opened on Friday, July 10th with a fantastic reception! The e-invitation that Delicia Reynolds sent out, proved a big success. Over 70 people were in attendance—with the majority being new guests. From this crowd of new faces, a pastel painting by Cyndi Marble was sold—congratulations!

The works were judged by Damon Carter and the award winners are as follows: 1st Place - Catherine Susky, 2nd Place - Miriam Gaisiner, 3rd Place - Mikki Root Dillon, and a 4th Place - Carol Luttenberg. Honorable Mention awards to Anne Labaire, Sara Grossman, Susan Faircloth, Elizabeth Gillespie, Rae Prall, Catherine Susky and Miriam Gaisiner. As mentioned in the last newsletter, this show will be extended an additional six weeks ending, October 4th.

An opportunity has come about for the promotion of Norcross as the “place for art” and our gallery will be the venue for ATLANTA CELEBRATES PHOTOGRAPHY (ACP), an Atlanta city-wide event. To accommodate this exhibit, October 9-25th, a decision was made to make it easier on the KAZ gallery volunteers who take down and hang the exhibits to leave the current show hanging for the additional time.

The KAZ exhibit will hang through the Norcross Art Festival Weekend of October 3-4 and will be taken down October 5. Please contact me if you need to remove your work before this extended closing time.

Entries for the next KAZ show, FOOD FOR THOUGHT, will be accepted October 23, 24 & 26.
Entries for Dominick's will be accepted August 21, 22 & 24th.

Thanks, Sandy Lacy
