From the Council

Hello Members...and greetings from your new Management Council! We are excited about Kudzu's future, and want to encourage all our members to feel free to contact any of us with ideas, suggestions and any feedback you think will help our gallery and studio make a positive contribution to the art community in and around Norcross.

Kudzu Management Council - 2009 includeRigsby Barnes, Cynthia Corbin, Jeannie Fortin, Greg Jackson, Kathy Kitz, Sandy Lacy, James Mengason, Susie Schklar and Christopher Sherry.

We plan to meet the second Monday of each month. Our primary concerns are those necessary to keep our gallery open and running smoothly. We intend to focus a lot of energy on membership, both by increasing our numbers and creating ways for our current members to stay involved, grow artistically and contribute in their own unique ways. Special attention will be given to our monthly meetings. Please give us any suggestions regarding individual artists, special medias or product presentations that you feel would interest our membership.

Corners To Crossing 10K Race

A great opportunity is awaiting some lucky member! The City of Norcross has asked KAZ to participate in this annual race event scheduled for April 17, 2010. We are looking for one artist to design the t-shirt art for this race. The art will also be used for posters and all advertising and marketing pieces for the promotion of the race. Please visit our website - Members Only - and look for the link Corners 2 Crossing for a prospectus on this event, the 3 logos which need to be used and an artwork submission form. You are encouraged to work on ideas and have them comped up to be presented at the next Member Meeting, Monday, September 28. Kudzu will submit them to the C2C committee for review. C2C will contact the winner and then he or she will have until October 25 to finalize their work and submit the final art to the committee. A $500 award will be given the chosen artist - $250 from Kudzu and $250 from C2C.

At the Gallery

It will be a busy couple of months with art works coming and going at the KAZ gallery. When shows are over please make sure you collect work not sold and sign your entry form with the date you picked the work up. The current KAZ storeroom is not big enough to accommodate an overabundance of uncollected work. Check the KAZ website to keep track of what work is current in an exhibition.

The current exhibit—A BODY OF WORK—continues through Sunday, October 4. The normal KAZ exhibit schedule has been adjusted to welcome the special photography exhibit for Atlanta Celebrates Photography—October 9-25. Show participants will handle the special gallery open hours.

Upcoming KAZ gallery and other venues’ schedule:

  • October 4 – A BODY OF WORK ends.
  • October 23, 24 & 26 – Submit entries for KAZ gallery exhibit FOOD FOR THOUGHT. The opening will be Friday, November 6 and the show will continue through Wednesday, December 2.
  • November 20, 21 & 23 – Submit entries for FIRE •WIND •WATER. The opening will be during the KAZ holiday party Sunday, December 6. Show continues to January 23, 2010.
  • PAIZANO'S Venue – Submit entries September 25, 26 & 28
  • DOMINICK'S Venue – Submit entries October 23, 24 & 26
  • CACC Venue – Submit entries October 23, 24 & 26

Now is the time to let me know your ideas for the 2010 Gallery year. There will be at least six member exhibits featuring all media and the possibility of fitting in three shows that feature specific media, such as photography, fabrics or pottery.

Thanks, Sandy Lacy
