From the Council

Hello Members... At our last meeting, the Council discussed many different issues regarding the basic day-to-day life of Kudzu Art Zone. Our biggest concern is the need to increase our income to cover the basic costs (ie. utilities and necessary housekeeping is roughly $30 a day) required to keep the gallery/studio open. We decided to initiate a charge of $3 for members and $5 for non-members for those persons using the facility on days when it is not open to the public. (This does not apply to those members who rent studio space.) For other special events, such as the Tuesday evening Figure Study Sketch Group, open to members only, the fee is $5 a person.
We are also setting up presentations for the next several monthly meetings. We want this to be what YOU, the members, want. So, please give any member of council your suggestions and ideas. We are trying to encourage member participation and any input is valued and appreciated.

Our next Council Meeting is Monday, October 12. If any of you have concerns that we need to discuss, please let any council member know and it will be added to our agenda.

Above all, this is YOUR gallery and studio. We want to encourage you to become involved and support our efforts in making Norcross a true ART DESTINATION!

Sincerely, MCKAZ

the Management Council at Kudzu Art Zone

PROPOSALS FOR THE 2010 GALLERY SCHEDULE

I would appreciate your feedback on the following proposals for the gallery shows – good, bad or otherwise.

Six member exhibits will be scheduled for 2010, 5-8 weeks in length.

• Two of the six would be juried and judged.

• Four of the six would be judged only.

Three SPECIAL member exhibits, 4 weeks in length.

• Proposals would be accepted for these special group member exhibits and they would be scheduled for (1) April 30 – May 22, (2) July 2-July 24, and (3) July 30-August 21.

The focus of these special exhibits would be to encourage members to group together to present an exhibit of work in media not normally submitted in our regular exhibits. The mediums could be photography, encaustic, textiles/fibers, pottery, sculpture, mixed medium, collage, as well as 2-D work.

• Proposals would be presented to the gallery committee for review. Participants would be responsible for hanging their own show (with help from the gallery team, if needed), staff the gallery when open, the creation and sending of invitations and planning an opening (if desired).

• There would be a fee charged to cover utility expenses. (TBD).

Suggestions for 2010 Exhibit Titles are still being accepted. Now is the time to let me know your ideas for the 2010 Gallery year. There will be at least six member exhibits featuring all media and the possibility of fitting in three special shows to feature specific media, such as photography, fabrics or pottery.

Thanks, Sandy Lacy

Gallery Chairperson

Carrie Burns Brown Workshop

The Carrie Burns Brown Workshop was a wonderful success. Everyone that attended had a great time and we all made new friends. Carrie was a great teacher and it was a pleasure to see her get excited when we created a new and beautiful paper. Everyone in the workshop created beautiful collages using the textured papers we made during the workshop. Many of us wished the workshop had lasted several more days, so we could try all the techniques Carrie taught us. Carrie's workshop is one
I would take again.

Kathy Kitz - Events Chairperson

PS: Here is an opportunity for some special member. Katrina Stone has long been our volunteer coordinator for staffing the gallery and has decided to surrender this very important duty to another. If you would be interested in taking over for her please let Katrina know, or notify one of the Management Council members. And we all say...Thank You Very Much to Katrina!
