President’s Message

Hello everyone,

Hmmmm 96 degrees and we call this spring ? It just makes for more time to paint and after you finish painting, dont forget to bring your work to the next Kudzu meeting. Back by popular demand Lala will be conducting her famous Critiquing Session. We will have another gallery show coming up soon and I’m looking forward to “seeing how we turn up the heat.” I’m always impressed by the quality of work we have in our organization.

Please be cautious in the hot weather and I look forward to seeing you all at the meeting.

Vince Maiello, President

Gallery News

Feel The Heat, the next Kudzu Art Zone gallery show, opens July 11 and closes August 23, 2008. Members can submit original art work on Saturday, June 21, 11- 3:45, or at Monday’s meeting on June 23, 6-6:45. The work will be juried and ribbon winners will be announced at the opening Friday, July 11, 2008, 7-9 pm.

As our former Publicity Chair, Karen Burnett Garner wrote in a press release, “Temperature can be conveyed as color, shape, even texture. The only limitation is the artist’s imagination. The exhibit gives KAZ membership an opportunity to portray their vision of heat in all the facets.”

Journeys, Inside and Out, the current gallery show, concludes Saturday, June 21. Work can be collected after 3:45 on that day.

Susan Faircloth, 3rd place winner in Journeys Inside and Out exhibit, and Debra Barnhart Smith’s 2nd place winning sculpture.

The work for Paizano’s restaurant can be submitted Saturday, June 21, 11-3:45, or at the meeting June 23. The work will be hung on Friday, June 27 and the current work returned to the gallery.

Original Artwork: All work submitted to the gallery must be original work. Copies or prints of an original will not be accepted. If a work is a part of an edition (such as photo or print work), that information needs to be noted on the work. Also, as a reminder, the submissions must be less than two years old.

Gallery Advertising: Anne Labaire has taken on the responsiblity of submitting KAZ gallery news to the Museums & Gallery magazine that is free to the public. KAZ will now have an ad running on a regular basis which will feature a picture of the First Place ribbon winner’s work. Besides press releases, word of mouth, local news and now this ad, we hope to see more foot traffic during our opening hours.

Gallery Hanging System: If you have a had good experience with a gallery hanging system, please pass that info on to me as we research a hanging system for the KAZ gallery.

There will be dialog at 12 and 3. The cost per session is $5 for members, $10 for non-members. Contact Christopher for more information.

Lala Streett is conducting a two-day workshop, Monotype - Introduction to a unique Image! A monoprint is a single print created by transferring to paper an image that has been painted on a plate, in our case, Plexiglas. Why paint this way? To achieve wonderful painterly textures and surface affects that cannot be obtained by working directly on paper. An increditably creative medium, we will explore the basics as well as combinations with watercolor and/or acrylics and colored pencils. The June workshop is full so an additional workshop has been scheduled July 9-10 (Wednesday and Thursday), 10 am -3 pm. The fee is $95 for members, $115 for non-members, plus a $5 supply fee paid to Lala. See the website to register and for supply list and other details.

Jim Mengason and Delicia Reynolds will conduct a hands-on workshop on the Kudzu Web Gallery on June 21 for only $30. Learn how to resize and upload your photos, how to set up your bio page and how to change, delete and modify your gallery. Bring digital photos, your laptop and photo-editing software if possible. Email or call Jim if you have questions.
